Help My House - Application Period Extended

Current Date: Thursday, September 09, 2010

The application deadline has been extended from April 30 to May 14.

As part of its continuing effort to aid members to become more energy efficient, Pee Dee Electric Cooperative announces its participation in a statewide energy efficiency and consumer education study.  PDEC has joined other electric distribution cooperatives in the “Help My House” study that will test different approaches to educate members or judge how cost-effective certain energy-efficient measures actually are.  While aimed largely at making South Carolina’s highest-in-the-nation percentage of manufactured homes more energy efficient, site built homes are also part of the year-long study.

“HelpMyHouse” is funded by Central Electric Power Cooperative, Pee Dee Electric’s distribution and wholesale power supplier, through a grant from the South Carolina Budget and Control Board’s State Energy Office.

Two different initiatives are available for Pee Dee Electric members.

In Home Display / Power Monitor
Pee Dee Electric is offering to a limited number of members, free of charge, an in-home display unit designed to inform them in near-real-time how much power they are using.  This information will allow the end-users to better determine their overall energy consumption.

Solar Thermal Hot Water Heater
Pee Dee Electric is offering to a limited number of members, free of charge, a solar thermal hot water heater which will help determine how to improve water heating efficiency for all consumers.

E. LeRoy “Toy” Nettles, Jr., PDEC President and CEO, said, “By joining this program with eighteen other South Carolina electric cooperatives, we will gather important data in a much shorter period of time than we would need if working alone.  The benefits of this study will be more and more evident in years to come.”

Applications are also available at our offices. Applications are due no later than May 14.

Other cooperatives will utilize various energy efficient ideas with the help of some of their members.
