How the SURGE GUARDŽ Program Works
Pee Dee Electric will install and maintain your leased Meter -TreaterŽ surge protector that mounts behind your electric meter and, if needed, install a ground rod to ensure proper grounding.

Monthly lease charge: $5.00

Meter-based surge protection protects standard residential electro-mechanical appliances such as: clothes washers & dryers, refrigerators & freezers, dishwashers, electric ranges, heating & air conditioning, and other major home appliances that are motor-driven or mechanical in nature.
When the surge protector detects a surge, it immediately diverts the largest portion into the ground through the ground rod.

An electric account with Pee Dee Electric is not required to purchase point-of-use protectors that provide further internal protection from surges generated inside the house, such as air conditioners cycling on and off, and surges that enter through phone and TV cables.
Point-of-use protectors offer additional protection for appliances such as computers with modems, fax machines, microwaves, garage door openers, and stereos.
